The book
All over Europe, the first decade of the twentieth century was a period particularly rich in creativity. On the wave of enthusiasm for modernity, a “fire” raged in art and literature, thought and ideologies. The epicentre of this artistic earthquake was Italy where in the cities of Florence and Milan, and with personalities like Soffici, Marinetti, D’Annunzio and many others, it brought a period of irresistible renewal. The “fire” of Futurism made headway in art, war, and Fascism all over the world, up to the return to an order which was no longer that of the original. The author introduces us into that climate with the essay “La gioventà bruciante”, which opens the way to unforgettable pages “written in fire”, an anthology of select passages by the “incendiaries” par excellence: Palazzeschi, Marinetti, Papini, Soffici, Gentile, Mussolini, Corradini, Olivetti, Michelstaedter, Boccioni, Prezzolini, D’Annunzio.
