The exhibition catalogue of “Mozart a Firenze…qui si dovrebbe vivere e morire”, dedicated to the composer’s Florentine sojourn in April 1700, avail of essays authored by prestigious scholars who confront the fascinating event, reconstructing the musical and artistic life of the Tuscan court and of the city at the time of Mozart’s journey. In addition to essays, the catalogue presents critical profiles of the materials on show: rare archive documents, musical scores, opera librettos, engravings, drawings, portraits of figures of the music and art milieu; objects of use like the model of a carriage of 1770, a gala costume, Bartolomeo Bimbi’s “biola” built in Florence in 1770. Research conducted by numerous collaborators has expanded further on previous studies and led to interesting discoveries that make for new specifics on the subject, such as the exact location of the hotel L’Aquila Nera where the Mozarts stayed. New light is also shed on the figure of Enrico Gavard des Pivetz concerning Mozart’s Florentine sojourn.
