The Book

«Do not fear sanctity and feelings, which the consumeristic laicism has deprived men of, transforming them into brutes, stupid automatons, worshippers of fetishes». With this exhortation of 1975, Pier Paolo Pasolini was ahead of his times and anticipated the most lacerating contradiction – for those willing to see – of the contemporary world. Conservatism intended as the defence of the values of the spirit, as the recovery of the good things from our past, and of what makes every man “a Man”. These are the themes of a book that the author defines as a pamphlet, colloquial and agile; a defence that bucks the trend of duties versus rights, obedience and respect versus the relentless individualism that regulates modern society. In seeking the motivations in politics, philosophy and religion, Camillo Langone exhorts the reader to recover the «destra divina» (tr. note, divine right) that Pasolini claimed was closed up «inside us, in our sleep» and, with newfound pride and courage, to respond to the scepticism and rampant materialism that from each of us takes what we hold dearest: our dignity as men, our own story.
