Vallecchi Bibliofili

Vallecchi Bibliofili in brief Attilio Vallecchi began his career as a printer at the dawning of the twentieth century, helping young writers destined to become famous, such as Ardengo Soffici and Giovanni Papini. He then became a publisher in a cultural climate divided between avant-gard tendencies and tradition. Thanks to magazines such as "Leonardo", "Lacerba", "Voce", "Il Selvaggio" and the fortnightly magazine written in French "La Vrai Italie", the Vallecchi of the 1920’s was the international mouthpiece of literary and philosophical trends of the first half of the twentieth century. Authors published by Vallecchi include Palazzeschi, Tozzi, Slataper, Marinetti, Ungaretti, Prezzolini, Viviani, Campana, Bargellini and Malaparte, not to mention Michelstaedter, Croce and Gentile. Outstanding artistic collaborators included Picasso, De Chirico, Boccioni, Carrà and Rosai. In the wartime period, despite numerous difficulties, Attilio Vallecchi continued to run his business, even printing during bombardments. After the war Attilio’s son Enrico took over and followed his father’s footsteps, which enabled Vallecchi to enlarge its area of interest and cultural diffusion. It was precisely thi reason which moved Enrico to renew the publishing company in 1983, after having ceded it to others in 1962. After the Second World War illustrious collaborators included Carlo Bo and Geno Pampaloni as well as other still famous authors such as Pratolini and Montale. This sense of continuity is what the Fiorentine publishing company intends to guarantee. Therefore corresponding to the original intentions at the beginning of the century, the Vallecchi of the new millennium reproposes itself as the ideal link between the noble tradition of the nineteen hundreds and the present context of a new background open to contemporary world cultural debate.
